Letters from the Zodiac
logo design & book design
A typography-as-art book based on letters The Zodiac Killer sent to the San Francisco Chronicle. These letters were intertwined with text from a college forensic's class, as well as poems conceived by a supercomputer that was built to think like the Zodiac Killer. Each of these voices has a set typeface, which helps the reader understand and differentiate each voice.
By juxtaposing these different voices at a calculated pace, I tried to emulate the haphazard essence of the mind of The Zodiac Killer. Subtle, more nuanced moments would clash with pages that that were filled with frenzied type. I wanted to show expressive and experimental type by doing things most typesetters would cringe when seeing, but ultimately embodied my idea of calculated insanity.
